Bursitis

Bursitis is a painful condition that affects joints. It occurs when a bursa, a small fluid-filled sac that cushions the places where bones meet muscle, skin, and tendons, becomes inflamed. Inflammation and irritation increase the fluid in the bursa sac, which restricts movement and causes pain.

  • Pain when lying on the affected side can worsen when sleeping at night.
  • Bruising and pain when you press on the hip.
  • Pain that gets worse during activities and movement
  • Swelling and reddening of the skin in the affected area.
  • Warmth within the affected area.
  • Stiffness in joints could lead to immobility.
  • Overuse during play or work activities with repetitive movements that cause joint injury.
  • Inflammatory arthritis and related conditions, including gout and rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Incorrect posture when sitting or standing, especially for long periods.
  • Injury to the point of the hip, including falling on or bumping into an object.
  • Old age or wear and tear decrease the functioning of tendons, muscles, and other soft tissue.
  • Spinal manipulative therapy is an adjustment technique that realigns the spine to bring pain relief and restore proper functioning.
  • Your chiropractor will provide guidance on how to maintain a healthy diet and a healthy weight.
  • Massage therapy applied to the area around inflamed bursitis can release tense muscles and increase circulation to improve range of motion.
  • Your chiropractor will devise an exercise rehabilitation programme to strengthen and stretch the surrounding muscles, ligaments, and tendons.

Degenerative disk disease and slipped disks

Degenerative disk disease is when the spinal disks, which cushion the vertebrae, degenerate and make movement painful. A slipped or herniated disk occurs when part of the disk material protrudes due to an injury. Your chiropractor needs a proper diagnosis to ensure you get the correct treatment.

  • The first sign of degenerative disk disease is pain, which can be intermittent or continue for months.
  • Your arms or legs may feel numb, or you might experience tingling sensations in your extremities.
  • The pain extends down your spine to your buttocks.
  • In degenerative disk disease, you may feel severe pain when sitting, bending, or lifting.
  • The first sign of a slipped disk is lower back pain.
  • You may also experience numbness or tingling on the affected side.
  • Muscle weakness in your leg or foot on the affected side.
  • Pain when walking, sleeping, and after standing and sitting.
  • Sudden movements, including sudden stops and changes of direction.
  • Twisting the knee without moving your foot.
  • Landing or falling awkwardly.
  • A direct blow.
  • Sports with sudden stops and direction changes, including soccer and rugby, where tackles are also dangerous. Playing on astroturf is an additional risk factor.
  • Sudden or pre-existing knee dislocations.
  • Joint instability.
  • Spinal manipulation and adjustments by your chiropractor for pain relief.
  • Manual therapy and soft tissue manipulation lessen compression and relieve spasms.
  • Therapeutic exercises play an essential role in your rehabilitation programme to stretch and strengthen your spinal muscles and improve flexibility and range of motion.
  • Spinal decompression is gently stretching the spine to change its position and ease pressure on the disks.

Sciatica (Pain and Tingling Down the Legs)

Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve becomes pinched, compressed, or inflamed. After diagnosis, your chiropractor treats sciatica using a holistic rehabilitation programme, which might include spinal manipulation and adjustment and massage therapy.

  • Moderate to severe pain following the sciatic nerve’s path from your lower back down to the back of your calf. In some cases, the pain extends to your toes.
  • Numbness or weakness in your lower back, buttocks, legs, or feet makes movement difficult.
  • Pain that is worse when you sit, move, cough or sneeze.
  • Shooting pain in your leg that worsens when you stand up.
  • Tingling or burning feeling in your legs and feet.
  • Herniated disks and bone spurs on your vertebrae are the most common causes of sciatica.
  • Age and natural wear and tear can change the spine and pinch the sciatic nerve.
  • Obesity places excessive stress on the spine.
  • Strenuous work that requires a lot of heavy lifting and carrying.
  • Excessive driving, for instance, a job that requires long-distance travel.
  • An unhealthy or sedentary lifestyle that involves a lot of sitting.
  • Certain medical conditions, including spondylolisthesis and spine tumours.
  • Spinal manipulation and adjustment realign the spinal column and relieve muscle spasms and inflammation.
  • Manual therapies, including soft tissue manipulation, release compression to restore range of motion.
  • Stretching exercises provided by your chiropractor ease pressure and improve flexibility.
  • Applying controlled pressure to your joints.

Severe Muscle, Lower Back Spasms and Groin Strains

A back spasm can be a slight ache or a stabbing pain and can be fixed on one point or extended to nearby areas of the body. A groin strain happens when there’s too much stress on the groin and thigh muscles, which then stretch or tear. An experienced chiropractor can successfully treat both conditions.

  • Feeling like there is a tight knot in your lower back.
  • Sudden stabbing pain from muscle twinges and cramps.
  • Difficulty moving, especially when bending or picking up objects.
  • The first symptom of a groin strain is sudden pain in the inner thigh.
  • The strained area looks swollen and bruised.
  • Pain and stiffness on the affected side
  • Difficulty moving and sleeping.
  • Back spasms can be caused by muscle strain and injuries to tendons and ligaments in the lower back.
  • Strenuous activity, such as heavy lifting and sports strains the lower back.
  • Weak back and abdominal muscles that can’t properly support the back.
  • Herniated disk and sciatica can pinch a nerve and cause inflammation.
  • Arthritis, scoliosis, spinal stenosis, and fibromyalgia contribute to back spasms.
  • Incorrect posture when sitting and standing.
  • A sedentary lifestyle weakens back muscles.
  • Stress and anxiety cause people to tense their neck and back muscles.
  • Groin strains can be caused by sudden twists and turns which stretch the groin muscles, such as when playing a high-impact sport.
  • Strain also results from resistance training and heavy lifting.
  • Spinal adjustments by your chiropractor put everything back in alignment, which eases tension and improves posture.
  • Hip adjustments release pinched nerves and put everything back in alignment.
  • Myofascial release for back spasms and groin strain relaxes soft tissues and reduces tension.
  • Pain control modalities for lower back spasms and groin strain include heat and cold packs, OTC anti-inflammatories, and pain medication.
  • Joint mobilisation for both conditions increases flexibility, lubricates tissues, and realigns joints.
  • Stabilisation exercises or spinal manipulation by your chiropractor can be used in rehabilitation programmes to relieve back spasms and groin strain.
  • Corrective actions are taken from an holistic point of view to ensure the underlying causes are also addressed. They include exercises from your chiropractor.
